Autonomic Orchestra

The Autonomic Orchestra (by Adam Scott and Alan Macy) is a real-time, sonically-generative, group experience that utilizes electrocardiogram (ECG-heartbeat) data from four participants, simultaneously. The composition employs an algorithm that translates the ECGs of the participants, by shifting up the base rhythms (BPM) into the audible range, and combining the shifted rhythms to create a melody that is best described as a musical expression of the interacting Autonomic Nervous Systems of the collected participants.
